About the Product

Sikaflex-290 DC PRO is a high-performance, 1-component polyurethane-based joint sealing compound, expertly designed for caulking joints in traditional timber marine decking. Its unique formulation provides exceptional durability and weathering resistance, making it ideal for use in challenging maritime environments. The sealing compound cures to form a flexible elastomer which allows a fast and easy sanding process.

This product is suitable for experienced professional users only.

  • Excellent weathering resistance
  • Robust and durable
  • Easy and fast to sand
  • Ideal flow behavior for application
  • Long toolability
  • Resistant to both seawater and fresh water

The sealing compound cures into a flexible elastomer that allows for quick and efficient sanding, ensuring a smooth finish. Sikaflex®-290 DC PRO meets the rigorous standards set by the International Maritime Organisation (IMO), making it a trusted choice for marine applications.

Surface Preparation

Proper surface preparation is crucial; surfaces must be clean, dry, and free from grease, oil, and dust. For timber surfaces, the use of an appropriate primer, such as Sika® Primer-215, is mandatory. Specific surface treatments may vary based on the substrates involved, and preliminary tests are recommended to determine the best approach.

Application

For optimal results, apply the adhesive using suitable equipment such as pumps, dosing units, or piston-operated application guns. The ideal processing temperature ranges from 15 °C to 25 °C, although the product can be processed between 5 °C and 35 °C with some adjustments to reactivity and application properties.

Removal

Uncured Sikaflex®-290 DC PRO can be removed from tools and equipment with Sika® Remover-208 or a suitable solvent. Once cured, the material must be removed mechanically. To ensure safety, wash hands and exposed skin immediately with Sika® Cleaner-350H or a suitable industrial hand cleaner and water; avoid using solvents on the skin!
