Downlights are popular the world over and none more so than in Australia, but how many people know whether their downlights meet the Australian standards which require protective covers to be installed on all downlights. The halogen bulbs used in downlights produce a huge amount of heat (approx. 300 °C) which represents a significant fire hazard.
FESA have reported that downlights have been the cause of at least 50 house fires in the past year and this statistic continues Australia-wide. Don't put your family's lives at risk by ignoring an issue which can easily, cheaply and quickly be rectified.
Our fire retardant downlight covers (Igloos) are one of only a handful of downlight covers which pass the new AS3000 standards.
If you don't have covers at all you are already breaking the law and you may find it difficult to sell your house without covers on your downlights. If you have covers already, please check that these meet the new standards which require the transformer to have a certain amount of airflow.
Our covers come in 2 sections which slide under the clips of the light and then clip together without the need for any tools. The transformer cable feeds though a slot in the cover and the transformer sits on top of the cover on a specifically provided holder. Insulation can then be butted up to the cover (although insulation should not be placed on top of the cover), thus reducing your heating and cooling bills.
